Labor Day

Posted by Liz VanOrstrand on August 30, 2016 14:08 CDT

Observed on the first Monday in September, Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers. It was created by the labor movement in the late 19th century and became a federal holiday in 1894.

That will be Monday, September 5th and ABNC will be open to the public on this day. If you are available to lead a hike, be a greeter, do a demo or any other the usual activities we have on the weekends, you are more the welcome to join us that day. As always just let the front desk know you are here and volunteering so that they can let the guesses know what to look for on site.

Thanks to all who,as always.

Education is again in need, this time they are looking for Fabric Tablecloths. With an increase in classes being offered, the Hana Building is being used more and more. The Education Department is hoping that fabric tablecloths will help with sound absorption. They would like solid colors and have 26 four foot tables and 10 eight foot tables. As always thank for your support.

Pot Luck Holiday Party

Posted by Liz VanOrstrand on December 8, 2015 16:43 CST

The Volunteer Board provides meats (ham and turkey) so please bring a side dish or dessert. Include your family to enjoy time with us. Don’t forget your plates and such to save using paper and plastic.

The Volunteer Board has decided to join the Pasadena Police Department’s “Officer Santa” Program. It provides toys and necessities, such as clothing for underprivileged children in the Pasadena community. Please bring a new, unwrapped item any time after November 28 up until our meeting December 10 and place it under the decorated tree in the auditorium. The following day, we will take them to Community Services on Fairmont. Keep in mind that the recipients will be children between 5 and 12 years.

Hello everyone!   I always enjoy looking at the great pictures that are posted in the gallery.  This is just a quick friendly reminder to make sure you have the copyright or that the image is in the public domain (fair use).  Any picture you take yourself is definitely in that category.  If you do spot a image you think might not belong just hit the little "report abuse" button by the image and we will review it.   Thanks!

10 more days to vote for Armand Bayou Nature Center in KidsOutAndAbout's 2015 survey of the Top 20 Places to Take Kids in Houston

This is your semi-weekly reminder to encourage your fans to vote for you! The survey closes a week from Monday!

1) KidsOutAndAbout's 2015 Top Places to Take Kids Survey has 10 days left. Anything can happen in those 10 days, so it's important to keep encouraging your fans to vote. Here is the link to send them:

Voting closes June 15, 2015, with the winners announced shortly thereafter.

2) If you win a slot in the Top 20 or are a category winner...

You'll receive a certificate suitable for framing and displaying at your place of business, a year's worth of mention in our newsletter, 2015 award graphics to use in your own promotions, and a couple of other fun goodies. And natural P.R., of course.

3) Ads on the Top 20 page:

We have had a bunch of inquiries about advertising on the Top 20 page. Those ads are lovely and large, 575 pixels wide x 100 pixels high. (At the bottom of this email, I have put an example of one I love, in the proper dimensions, so you can see the kind of thing that is usually submitted.)

If you make the Top 20 or win in a category, that ad is only $50/month if you purchase it for a year, and it will appear as part of your listing on that page, to make your footprint on that page a lot bigger.

If you DON'T make the Top 20 this year, you can still purchase an ad on that page, for only $100/month... and it will appear in the highest slot available (if a winning organization does not purchase the ad for their slot, it will be offered to and organization that does not make the Top 20).

SPECIAL OFFER: If you reserve your Top 20 Ad before we announce the winners on June 19, it does not matter whether you make the Top 20 or not... your ad will cost you only $50/month. If you want to lock in this special rate, EMAIL ME BACK IMMEDIATELY to reserve your slot.

**Note: It is in no way required to purchase any advertising with us in order to appear on KidsOutAndAbout.com, ever. Your organization listing, and posting to our calendars, is always free. But we are glad to provide you with opportunities to be extra visible to those in your market. There are lots of ways to do so, so just email me back if you're interested in hearing about these ways, and I will send you our rate sheet and demographics.

We plan to send you one of these reminder emails twice per week that the survey is live, through June 15, 2015. Please let me know if you don't want to be reminded again.

Good luck! Happy voting!
